Police have recovered the hanging body of Arman Ahmed Shafin, 26, convener of the July Joddha Sangsad and former student of Uttara Government College, from a house in Dakshinkhan area of Uttara in Dhaka.
His body was found on Saturday at a residence near Adam Ali Market. Dakshinkhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taifur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said it would be confirmed after the autopsy whether the death was suicide or otherwise.
Nur Mohammad, former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Uttara, said the pictures suggest someone may have killed him and then hung the body. “It’s almost impossible to commit suicide in such a small space,” he said.
“Arman was a key organiser of the July Movement in Uttara. His unnatural death has caused both grief and outrage among his fellow activists,” he added.
OC Taifur Rahman Mirza said, “The body was found hanging. Whether it was suicide or something else will be known after the autopsy report. Arman lived with his parents in the No. 8 Railgate area of Dakshinkhan. The case is under investigation, and all possible angles are being examined.”
The ‘July Joddha Sangsad’ is one of the active student and youth organisations that emerged across the country following the July mass uprising. Arman Ahmed Shafin was a prominent organiser of its Uttara unit.
