A temporary election campaign office of BNP was allegedly set on fire in Bandarban early Tuesday.
Police said the incident occurred in Hafezghona under Ward No. 8 of Bandarban municipality.
Manna Dey, Additional Superintendent of Police for Bandarban Sadar Circle, said that a police team visited the site Tuesday morning. He added, “We are trying to find clues. Whoever the perpetrators are, they will be identified.”
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire destroyed some campaign banners.
Local BNP leader Iqbal Molla alleged that the attack was carried out deliberately to obstruct voting, as the BNP candidate’s victory in the election seemed certain. However, he did not point to any specific group or party as responsible.
