BNP’s Moulvibazar 3 constituency candidate M Naser Rahman has said his party will take responsibility for protecting Awami League supporters if it returns to power.
Speaking at an election courtyard meeting in Mostafapur Union of Moulvibazar Sadar on Wednesday night, the former MP and son of late BNP finance minister Saifur Rahman warned that a Jamaat-e-Islami–led government would bring “a situation like doomsday” to the country.
Naser Rahman told voters that the fear of Jamaat gaining state power was “baseless”.
“Do not think for even a second that anyone will come to power in the name of Jamaat-e-Islami,” he said. “If that happens, the country will face a situation like doomsday. Even during Sheikh Hasina’s time such bad days did not come.”
He claimed that Jamaat’s “hidden intentions” had been revealed in recent remarks by Shahjahan Chowdhury, a party leader from Chattogram, whom he described as a “major extortionist” at the port.
Naser Rahman said BNP would guarantee the security of Awami League supporters if the government changes.
“If Awami League voters need protection, it is the BNP who will provide it,” he said.
