Several media outlets on Wednesday circulated unverified reports claiming that former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan had died inside Adiala Jail.
The speculation appeared to stem from an unnamed Afghanistan-based outlet, though none of the Indian platforms sharing the claim identified the source or provided any link. Despite the lack of verification, the death hoax quickly went viral online.
The rumours gained traction at a time when Khan’s sisters Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Dr Uzma Khan filed a complaint with Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar, alleging that PTI supporters were assaulted outside the jail last week, reports Outlook.
Meanwhile, Pakistani media and Adiala jail authorities strongly rejected the swirling rumours, clarifying that Imran Khan has neither been moved from the facility nor faced any health emergency.
In an official statement, Rawalpindi prison administration confirmed that Khan “is fully healthy and under constant medical supervision,” adding that reports of his transfer or deteriorating condition are “baseless”, reports Pakistan Today.
