The question of who will administer the oath to the newly elected members of parliament now rests with the BNP, which secured a two‑thirds majority in the 13th parliamentary election.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan told Times of Bangladesh, “The government’s decision will be based on whom BNP’s elected MPs want to take their oath from.”
“We are now waiting for BNP’s decision. Whoever BNP chooses to administer the oath, that person will be appointed,” the adviser said.
On Friday, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus held a meeting with several advisers at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where preparations regarding the oath ceremony were discussed.
Meanwhile, the government has published the official gazette notification from the Election Commission. On Friday night, the EC released the list of elected members of parliament.
