Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator, Valiant Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam, has directed the relevant authorities to take immediate measures to evict all illegal parking and unauthorised shops adjacent to Badamtali market in Old Dhaka.
The directive was issued on Tuesday after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman met with the DSCC administrator to seek assistance in resolving the issues of illegal structures and traffic parking in Badamtali area.
Upon being informed of the situation, the administrator immediately ordered the eviction of all types of illegal parking and installations.
Welcoming the decision, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman said, “As a result of the Administrator’s decision, we will be able to conduct eviction operations quickly and it will be possible to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion in the Badamtali area.”
Babubazar Bridge parking suspended
Meanwhile, the DSCC has suspended all ongoing car parking activities under Babubazar Bridge in Ward No. 32 until further notice.
The suspension applies to 28,051.12 square feet of open space across four blocks, namely “A” to “D”, of the newly constructed car parking facility.
This decision follows allegations of extortion being carried out in Babubazar Bridge area using the name of the City Corporation, which recently came to the notice of the DSCC.
Commenting on the suspension, Abdus Salam said, “The City Corporation is for public service. Therefore, the City Corporation itself will not engage in any activity that causes suffering to citizens or tarnishes its image, nor will it allow anyone else to do so.”
