The government on Wednesday reviewed a roadmap to expand the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to 47 aircraft by the fiscal year 2034-35 as part of efforts to modernise the national carrier.
The review came at a meeting on Boeing aircraft procurement held at the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at Bangladesh Secretariat, presided over by Minister Afroza Khanam.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was also in attendance. During the session, officials evaluated the inclusion of Boeing aircraft into the fleet alongside previously initiated expansion efforts.
Afroza said an integrated work plan, based on route-specific revenue analysis, must be formulated before the addition of every new aircraft. She expressed that Biman Bangladesh Airlines can be transformed into a more profitable and passenger-friendly institution by taking timely and realistic measures.
Millat directed the concerned officials to continue the necessary processes for the acquisition of Boeing aircraft. He emphasised the importance of ensuring the timeliness of the supply process and called for coordinated efforts to ensure new aircraft are inducted into the fleet during the current government’s tenure.
Additionally, the state minister provided specific directions regarding the preparations required to resume flight operations on the Dhaka–Narita route.
The meeting was also attended by the secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the managing director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and senior officials from the ministry and related agencies.
