Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 450,000 yaba tablets and three kilograms of crystal meth (ice) in separate operations along the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar.
A Myanmar national was detained in one of the drives, the force said in a press release Monday.
Acting on intelligence, a patrol team of Hnila Border Outpost (BOP) under BGB‑64 took positions near the border around 1am.
They spotted three men carrying sacks into Bangladesh. When challenged, the suspects abandoned the sacks and fled as BGB fired blank shots around 1:15am.
A search recovered 400,000 yaba tablets packed in blue packets inside khaki wrappers. No arrests were made in this drive.
In another operation Sunday, Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) acted on intelligence of a major consignment crossing the Naf River.
Patrols spotted three smugglers arriving by boat in the Leda Khal area. Challenged at the Keora forest bank, the men fled, leaving behind 50,000 yaba tablets hidden in a fish basket.
Later, BGB surveillance detected another boat crossing from Myanmar through the Sabrang area around 7am.
As the naval patrol challenged, three smugglers jumped into the river and escaped, but one Myanmar national, Md Shah Alam, 50, was detained.
A search of the boat uncovered three kilograms of crystal meth concealed in a secret compartment.
