The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian mobile phone components and yaba worth around Tk25.9 lakh in a special anti-smuggling operation along the Satkhira border.
The goods were recovered on Thursday from different border areas under the jurisdiction of BGB outposts, including Bhomra, Kaliani, Kushkhali, Kakdanga, Madra and Bankal check-post in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazilas.
According to BGB, acting on a tip-off, a special team of Bhomra Border Outpost seized Indian yaba from Balur Math area of Satkhira Sadar.
Special teams from Kaliani and Kushkhali Border Outposts recovered Indian mobile phone components from Pakar Mor and Baghmara areas respectively, while another team from Kakdanga Border Outpost seized similar items from Bhadiyali area of Kalaroa.
Besides, teams from Madra Border Outpost and Bankal check-post recovered Indian mobile phone components from Ambagan area of Kalaroa and Dhalipara area of Satkhira Sadar respectively.
The total market value of the seized goods is estimated at Tk25.9 lakh.
BGB said the smugglers managed to flee after sensing the presence of its personnel, leaving behind the goods.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman, commander of Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion, confirmed the seizure and said the recovered Indian goods had been deposited with Satkhira Customs.
He added that the seized narcotics were recorded through a general diary with the Department of Narcotics Control in Satkhira and kept at the BGB store for later destruction in public.
