Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday said it had thwarted an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 10 individuals, including women, into Bangladesh through the Borobari border in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila.
Lt Col Md Sirajul Islam, commanding officer of the Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident, saying a flag meeting was held with the BSF company commander following the development.
According to BGB, members of the BSF’s 93 Tiyapara Camp opened a gate in the barbed-wire fence in the early hours of Friday and attempted to send the group into Bangladesh through the Borobari Border Outpost (BOP) area from India’s Pradhan Para locality.
However, a BGB patrol team intervened and prevented the alleged push-in, prompting BSF personnel to take the group back into Indian territory.
The individuals are currently staying about 20 yards inside the Indian side of the border near the zero line, BGB said.
Patrol teams from both border forces remain on alert to maintain stability in the area.
Meanwhile, BGB has intensified surveillance and patrols along the district’s border areas to prevent infiltration and push-in attempts. The force has also launched awareness campaigns and courtyard meetings among border residents as part of its preventive measures.
