Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has destroyed a vast quantity of narcotics, valued at over 83 crore 78 lakh taka, which were seized during various operations conducted along the Cumilla and Satkhira borders.
The drugs were destroyed at separate ceremonies held at the headquarters of Cumilla Battalion (10 BGB) and Neel Dumur Battalion (17 BGB) in Satkhira.
Cumilla and Sultanpur battalions, designated as 10 BGB and 60 BGB, destroyed narcotics and intoxicants worth Tk51,83,84,125 seized in ownerless consignments during operations conducted over the past three years.
Meanwhile, Neel Dumur Battalion destroyed narcotics worth Tk31,94,34,350 seized in the Shyamnagar, Debhata and Kaliganj border areas of Satkhira.
Between 7 September 2023 and 11 July 2024, the battalion seized smuggled goods worth more than Tk51.85 crore from the areas and arrested 41 people.
The destroyed narcotics included large quantities of liquor and Phensedyl, as well as yaba tablets, cannabis, heroin, illegal medicines, narcotic tablets, LSD and 2.4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice.
Brigadier General Mohammad Saiful Islam Chowdhury, region commander of the Sarail Region, attended the Cumilla ceremony as the chief guest.
Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan, region commander of the Jashore Region, was the chief guest at the Neel Dumur ceremony.
Senior officials from the district administration, judiciary, law enforcement agencies, Department of Narcotics Control and Customs, along with local representatives and journalists, attended the events.
