The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a significant initiative to facilitate the return of Shakib Al Hasan to the national squad. The board has submitted all documents relating to the former captain’s legal case to the government, a move that cricket news portal CricBuzz reports is expected to smoothen his comeback.

Cricket fans may not have to wait much longer to see Shakib Al Hasan back in action for Bangladesh. With the government prepared, the board aligned, and Shakib himself ready, the key question centred on the resolution of the case filed against him on 5 August 2024.

The government has already given a green light. The new State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, who experienced political retaliation after his own playing career, has been vocal about ensuring that Shakib faces no similar obstacles. Even before assuming office, he had emphasised that full support would be provided to bring back cricketers such as Shakib and Mashrafe Mortaza.

BCB’s initiative has received a positive response from the newly elected government. BCB director and Media Committee chairman Amzad Hussain confirmed that the government would oversee the resolution of Shakib’s legal matters and ensure his security. The board has also communicated that Shakib’s presence in the team is crucial. Following this, all related legal documents have been submitted to the authorities.

Bangladesh is scheduled to host Pakistan next month, and it is possible that the former captain could make his return during this home series.
