The Bangladesh Cricket Board has formally asked the International Cricket Council to move all of Bangladesh’s matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 to venues outside India, following an emergency board meeting held on Monday afternoon.
The tournament is scheduled to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka, but the BCB said it has serious concerns about the participation of the Bangladesh national team in matches due to be played in India under the current circumstances.
In a media release issued after the meeting, the BCB said its board of directors had reviewed developments over the previous 24 hours and expressed “deep concern” about the overall situation surrounding the team’s travel and participation in India.
“Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India, and considering the advice from the Bangladesh Government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions,” the statement said.
As a result, the BCB has approached the ICC, as the event’s governing authority, to explore the relocation of Bangladesh’s fixtures to a neutral venue outside India. The board believes this is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of players, team officials, board members and other stakeholders.
The BCB added that it hopes the ICC will respond urgently and take into account the seriousness of the situation. No immediate comment has been made by the ICC regarding the request.
The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup is expected to feature matches across multiple venues in India and Sri Lanka, with final scheduling still subject to confirmation.
