The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched the second phase of its nationwide coach education initiative in Chattogram, aiming to strengthen cricket at the grassroots level and nurture the next generation of players.
The three-day Level A Coaching Course for academy coaches began today at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium. BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury formally inaugurated the program, which brings together 32 academy coaches from across the division. The course is designed to enhance the technical skills, tactical understanding, and overall coaching competence of participants, equipping them to guide young cricketers in the early stages of their development.
A panel of experienced BCB trainers is leading the sessions. Senior coaches Wahidul Gani and Golam Faruk Suru, coaches Emdad Emdu and NasirUddin Faruk, along with trainer Morshed Hasan Sijer, are providing hands-on training and insights drawn from years of coaching experience at both domestic and national levels.
Former Bangladesh captain and BCB Game Development Head of Operations Habibul Bashar highlighted the program’s significance for the long-term growth of cricket in the country. He said, “It’s not enough to simply play cricket. Understanding the game, its techniques, its history, and its evolving demands is equally important. Most of the participants in this course work directly at the grassroots, and by enhancing their skills, we ultimately strengthen the foundation of Bangladesh cricket. This program is a crucial step toward building a more sustainable and knowledgeable coaching structure across all regions.”
The nationwide coach education program, which began with its first phase in Sylhet, will gradually cover all divisions in the country. Through standardized training and enhanced coaching quality, the BCB aims to ensure that young players everywhere receive consistent, professional guidance, helping to raise the overall standard of cricket in Bangladesh.
This initiative reflects the BCB’s ongoing commitment to developing grassroots cricket, creating a stronger pipeline of talent for the future, and ensuring that every aspiring cricketer has access to quality coaching and support from an early age.
