The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Monday, 3 November, that it has introduced strict new regulations for all leagues under the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), including the Dhaka Premier Division. The new provisions will take effect from the next season and are aimed at ensuring discipline and commitment among participating clubs.
Under the new rules, any team that fails to take part in a league, or withdraws after the competition has started, will be declared immediately ineligible and relegated. Such teams will not be allowed to return during the ongoing league.
Matches played by a withdrawn or disqualified team before their withdrawal will see the opposing sides awarded full points, regardless of the actual match results. For remaining fixtures, the opponents scheduled to play against the withdrawn team will automatically receive full points.
However, the rule will not apply to teams that officially inform the authorities of their non-participation before the league begins.
The BCB further stated that if two or more teams are relegated under this rule, no relegation league will take place that season. The CCDM will decide the number of teams to be promoted in the 2026–27 season, based on how many teams were relegated in the 2025–26 season under the new regulation.
According to the BCB, these measures are intended to make league structures more organised and to encourage clubs to remain active until the completion of each competition.
Summary of key rules for clubs:
1. Teams failing to participate fully, or withdrawing after the start of the league, will be immediately declared ineligible and relegated, with no right to rejoin during the same season.
2. Opponents of a withdrawn or disqualified team will receive full points for all matches already played, regardless of results.
3. Opponents in remaining scheduled matches will automatically receive full points.
4. The rule does not apply to teams that officially withdraw before the league begins.
5. If two or more teams are relegated for withdrawal, no relegation league will be held that season.
6. The CCDM will determine how many teams are promoted in 2026–27, based on the number relegated in 2025–26 under this rule.
