The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Integrity Unit, known as ACU, has been accused of serious misconduct by Dhaka Capitals CEO Atif Fahad. Speaking at a press conference today (9 January), he revealed that ACU members recently entered Afghan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s hotel room without permission and questioned him. The Afghan opener reportedly expressed his frustration over the incident.
Gurbaz contacted the Afghanistan Integrity Unit to confirm whether such behaviour by ACU was lawful. According to Atif, Gurbaz, visibly upset, also confronted his team management and indicated that he would reconsider participating in future BPL seasons.
Atif added that Saif Hassan faced a similar situation before going out to bat in a recent match against Rangpur Riders. Without naming others, he noted that several other players had experienced comparable treatment, raising concerns about the impact on their mental well-being.
ACU has reportedly confiscated mobile phones from 30 individuals, including one belonging to Atif himself. Several days later, the device has still not been returned, affecting his communications with sponsors and other essential activities.
Dhaka Capitals have also criticised the umpiring in the Rangpur Riders match, claiming that three wides that should have been awarded to Dhaka were not given.
Atif further suggested that ACU may show bias towards a “particular team,” treating other teams’ players as at fault while giving this team’s players leeway. He did not name the team involved.
