The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election will be held in 6 October, 2025. Voting will start at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka and continue until 4 pm.
But the election has already faced criticism. Many candidates have accused the process of irregularities and unfair practices. So far, 20 people have withdrawn from the race. Among them are big names like Tamim Iqbal and Lutfar Rahman Badal.
On Sunday morning, a local newspaper reported that ballot boxes had been filled with votes on Friday night, two days before the election. Following this news, Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan pulled out of the race on Sunday afternoon.
Although the last date for withdrawal was October 1, Redwan’s name will still appear on the ballot. However, he and the other withdrawn candidates will not take part in the election.
Redwan announced his decision in front of the BCB office at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. “This is a night-time election. They have already filled the ballot boxes. The way they are doing it now is worse than ever before. For the good of cricket, I want change. We don’t want this to continue. Cancel this election and hold a fair and transparent one. Whoever wins that, I will salute him,” he said.
Redwan also spoke about problems in the electronic voting system. He said he tried several times to meet the election commissioner but was not allowed.
“I wanted to tell them that e-ballots and postal ballots should be used only by those who are abroad or in hospitals. Why should healthy people, who are here, moving around, and enjoying themselves in hotels, be allowed to vote electronically?” he said.
