The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Election Commission has published the draft voter list for the 2026 BCB election, with 184 councilors confirmed so far.
The draft was expected to include 192 voters. But several districts and organizations did not submit councilor nominations, leaving eight spots vacant.
No councilorships came from the district sports associations of Cumilla, Munshiganj, Habiganj, Kurigram and Nilphamari.
Among special bodies, Cumilla Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Islamic University in Kushtia and Bangladesh Ansar VDP also did not submit nominations.
A major highlight of the draft list is the strong presence of current BCB ad hoc committee members across former captains, former cricketers and club categories.
From the former captains’ quota, current ad hoc committee members Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu and Khaled Mahmud Sujon are included alongside Shafiqul Haque, Habibul Bashar and Shahriar Hossain Biddut.
From the former national cricketers’ quota, several current ad hoc committee figures also appear.
Tamim Iqbal’s brother Nafees Iqbal is on the list, while Syed Rasel, Minhajul Abedin Nannu and other former players such as Nazimuddin, Talha Jubair, Naeem Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Dolar Mahmud and Shamsur Rahman have also received councilorships.
Tamim Iqbal himself, the current ad hoc committee president, has secured councilor nomination from Old DOHS Sports Club in the club category.
Minhajul Abedin Nannu also appears through district representation as councilor from Chattogram District Sports Association.
Several other current ad hoc committee-linked names are also spread across Dhaka club nominations, showing how strongly the present board structure is placed within the election framework.
Among notable Dhaka club nominees are Fahim Sinha from Abahani Limited, Tanzil Chowdhury from Prime Bank Cricket Club, Mirza Yasir Abbas from Azad Sporting Club, Israfil Khosru from Exium Cricketers, Rafiqul Islam Babu from Indira Road Krira Chakra and Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed from Fire Fighters Sporting Club.
Several heavyweight names are absent from Dhaka club nominations, including Faruque Ahmed, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Mahbub Anam, Ishtiaque Sadeque and Lokman Hossain.
Mahmudullah Riyad is one of the notable new faces in the councilor structure this time.
Objections to the draft voter list will be accepted from 10am to 4pm tomorrow, with hearings set for May 19.
The final voter list will also be published on May 19.
Nomination form distribution will take place on May 20 and 21, while submission dates are May 21 and 22.
The final nomination list will be published on May 25 after hearings and withdrawal.
The election for BCB directors, president and vice-president will be held on June 7.
As per BCB structure, 23 directors will be elected from three categories.
Ten directors will come from districts and divisions, 12 from clubs and one from the former cricketers’ category.
The draft list has made one thing clear. Former cricketers and current ad hoc committee members hold major influence across the voting structure ahead of the next BCB election.
