Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman has directed Sammilito Islami Bank PLC to assure depositors that their profits will not face any “haircut” and to allow withdrawals from 1 September.
The governor instructed the bank’s leadership to clear confusion among depositors and confirm that profits remain intact.
His directives came during a meeting Tuesday morning at Bangladesh Bank with Sammilito Islami Bank PLC Chairman Kazi Shairul Hasan and Managing Director Abedur Rahman Sikder.
Deputy Governors Md Habibur Rahman, Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman were present, according to a press release.
He said funds are already being returned under the scheme announced on 29 December 2025, but ordered further measures so that, from 1 September, individual depositors can withdraw money from Al‑Wadiah current accounts, Mudaraba savings accounts and Mudaraba term deposits as required, even beyond the scheme’s original provisions if necessary.
The governor also asked the bank, which has a capital base of Tk35,000 crore, to take all steps to restore normal banking operations promptly.
