Bayern Munich are already planning for a longer future with Harry Kane, even though his current contract still has one year left.
Club legend and board member Karl Heinz Rummenigge said Bayern want to keep the England captain beyond his present deal. He also said Kane has shown signs that he wants to stay in Munich.
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 on a four year contract. Since then, the 32 year old striker has become one of the team’s biggest stars with his steady flow of goals.
Speaking to T Online, Rummenigge praised Kane’s impact and revealed Bayern’s next step.
“Bringing Harry Kane to Munich was one of the club’s biggest successes in history. Everyone knows there is a release clause in his contract. But he did not trigger it and has indicated that he wants to stay in Munich. Accordingly, the club’s decision makers will sit down with him after the season.”
Rummenigge also made Bayern’s position clear on Michael Olise.
The French winger has been one of Bayern’s key players this season as the club chases multiple trophies. His form has drawn interest from top European clubs, including Liverpool, who are reportedly looking at him as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah.
But Bayern have no plans to let him go.
“He is an extraordinary player. I like his modest and publicity shy nature. Such people are rare today. He is a great guy, and he is fantastic on the pitch too. He plays magical football.”
Rummenigge said Bayern’s transfer policy on key players has stayed strong for years.
“In 2009, we received an unbelievable offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery, which would have been a world record transfer at the time. I went to then CFO Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeness with that offer. After two hours of discussions, we made a fundamental decision that in future, we would not sell any player we need on the pitch. This unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there is no price that could shake us.”
Bayern have already won the Bundesliga title this season.
They will now face Stuttgart in the German Cup final before taking on Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League semi final first leg on Tuesday.
