Banglalink, the country’s leading digital operator, has entered into a partnership with the US-based non-profit organisation Winrock International to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for survivors of human trafficking.

According to the press release, this initiative is being implemented through the Ashshash project, which receives support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, and will utilise the Banglalink Power application to facilitate economic empowerment.

The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed recently at Tiger’s Den, Banglalink’s headquarters in Dhaka. The agreement was signed by Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, Sales and Distribution Director of Banglalink, and Dipta Rakshit, Country Representative, Bangladesh, and Project Director of Ashshash at Winrock International.

Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink, and Masnoon Haque, Senior Program Officer at Winrock International, were also in attendance.

Under this partnership, survivors will use the Banglalink Power platform to provide digital recharge and related services, promoting the safe and responsible use of digital tools.

The platform is a social distribution tool that allows youth, women, and micro-entrepreneurs to generate income by selling mobile recharges via smartphones without requiring any upfront investment. It features a seamless onboarding process involving digital KYC verification, real-time commission tracking, and a transparent reward mechanism.

Mehedi Hasan said the partnership enables the creation of sustainable income opportunities that empower survivors through digital and financial inclusion. Taimur Rahman added that the initiative aligns with the GSMA Connected Women initiative, which aims to empower women across society to participate and thrive.

The project specifically targets ten of the most trafficking-prone districts in Bangladesh. Dipta Rakshit emphasised that building digital skills is essential for vulnerable groups, saying the partnership aims to equip participants with practical knowledge to confidently use digital tools and strengthen their economic resilience.

This collaboration reflects Banglalink’s broader commitment to expanding digital inclusion by providing accessible earning opportunities through technology and strategic cooperation.
