Md Samiul Arafin, a Bangladeshi software engineer, has joined Barclays in Tokyo, Japan, as Assistant Vice-President of Engineering, marking a senior leadership role for a Bangladeshi tech professional in a global investment bank.
Arafin brings more than 11 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on banking technology, payment systems, distributed architecture, cloud platforms and engineering leadership, said a press release on Thursday.
At Barclays, he is involved in developing payment services for the Japanese market, including domestic and international payment infrastructure, clearing, settlement and reconciliation systems.
Before joining Barclays, Arafin held senior engineering positions at DBS Bank and United Overseas Bank in Singapore, where he worked on banking platforms and financial technology infrastructure.
Earlier in his career in Bangladesh, he contributed to national digital infrastructure and public procurement technology initiatives, the press release added.
