BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that many institutions in the country have collapsed due to the fascist rule of the Awami League.
He said, “Bangladesh has been ravaged under the fascist rule. To emerge from this situation, BNP has formulated a 31-point programme.”
He made these remarks while inaugurating the biennial conference of Thakurgaon District BNP at the Thakurgaon Boys High School ground on Monday.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “BNP is the political party that ensured media freedom.”
This conference is being held after almost eight years; the last conference was held on December 31, 2017. Regarding the conference, he said, “This conference will bring a new form to Thakurgaon District BNP, which will guide the democratic path.”
Reminding everyone of BNP’s role as the “pioneer” of multi-party democracy in the country’s political history, he said, “One thing must always be remembered: BNP is the political party that introduced multi-party democracy from a one-party rule system.”
“BNP is the political party that ensured our media freedom. Based on the 21-point programme of martyred president Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia provided the vision for a new Bangladesh,” he added.
Expressing optimism to the leaders and activists, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Through today’s conference, a new BNP will be formed in this district, which will, on one hand, show a new path, and on the other, establish a democratic Thakurgaon.”
Before the inauguration of the conference, the event began with the rendition of the national anthem and the release of balloons and doves into the sky. Then, District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin presented the organisational report and a condolence motion.
