The holy month of Zilhajj will commence in Bangladesh on Tuesday, meaning the festival of Eid-ul-Adha is set to be celebrated across the country on 28 May.
The announcement followed a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee on Monday evening at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad confirmed that the crescent moon of Zilhajj, 1447 Hijri, had been sighted in the Bangladeshi sky.
According to the lunar calendar, Eid-ul-Adha falls on the 10th day of the month.
In contrast, Saudi Arabia will observe the festival a day earlier. The moon was sighted there on Sunday, with Zilhajj beginning on Monday.
As a result, the Day of Arafat will be marked in Saudi Arabia on 26 May, followed by Eid-ul-Adha on 27 May.
Other Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey, Indonesia, and Malaysia, have also announced they will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on 27 May, aligning with the Saudi Arabian schedule.
