Bangladesh plans to import 8,000 tonnes of diesel from India in June, following shipments of 25,000 tonnes in April, 10,000 tonnes in March, and 8,000 tonnes in May from the neighbouring country.
“The government intends to import 8,000 tonnes of diesel during the Aman season in June,” Meghna Petroleum Limited Deputy Manager (Operations) Md Habibur Rahman.
He said the May shipments arrived in two phases through the pipeline from Assam’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited to Bangladesh’s Parbatipur depot.
Rahman added that diesel demand particularly rises in the northwestern region during the irrigation season, with officials estimating that 2,000 tonnes per week will be required to irrigate the Aman crop this year.
He described the diesel import from India as an ongoing process, noting that Bangladesh has been receiving refined petroleum through the Numaligarh Refinery pipeline in Assam, India, since 2021.
