Bangladesh’s historic nine-wicket victory over Australia was so comprehensive that even Pat Cummins had little hesitation in admitting the hosts were outplayed in every department. The Australia captain praised Bangladesh’s patience and discipline, saying his side found it difficult to recover once they fell behind in the contest.
“They outplayed us in all facets, really. I thought they were really patient and quite disciplined. And, yeah, once we were behind, it was really hard to get back,” Cummins said at the post-match presentation.
Bangladesh completed their first-ever Test victory over Australia on Australian soil on Sunday, beating the hosts at Marrara Stadium in Darwin. The win was built on a complete team performance, with Hasan Mahmud taking six wickets, Tanzid Hasan Tamim scoring a century and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claiming a five-wicket haul.
Cummins also praised the touring side’s overall performance while admitting Australia needed to find a way to bat for longer and apply more pressure with the ball.
“They played really well. I thought the day-one wicket was doing a little bit early, but obviously got to try and find a way to bat a little bit longer than we did, and then just couldn’t penetrate with the ball. But I thought they played really well,” he said.
