Sabbir Rahman and Shamim Hossain have been included in Bangladesh’s 15-member High Performance (HP) squad for the Top End T20 tournament in Australia, with five changes made from the side that faced Malaysia.
The HP team will leave for Australia on Friday and begin their campaign against Nepal on August 22.
Sabbir struggled in the two-match series against Malaysia, scoring 14 off 12 balls and 12 off eight, but has retained his place. Shamim, meanwhile, gets another opportunity to push for a return to the national side.
Four other players in the squad have international experience: Abdul Gaffar Saklain, Ripon Mondol, Mrityunjoy Chowdhury and Abu Hider Rony. Saklain last featured in the T20I squad for Zimbabwe, while Ripon played against New Zealand. Mrityunjoy last represented Bangladesh in 2023, with Rony’s last appearance coming in 2018.
Irfan Sukkur will captain the side, while emerging pacer Rohanat Doullah Borson has also been included after a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, for Bangladesh Emerging in South Africa.
Habibur Rahman Sohan replaces Jowad Abrar, while Jowad, Shadhin Islam, Pritom Kumar, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi and Iqbal Hossain have been left out. Pritom will instead join Bangladesh A in South Africa.
