Bangladesh secured a commanding innings victory over Ireland in the Sylhet Test on 14 November 2025, with spinners Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam running through the visitors’ batting line-up. Chasing after being 301 runs behind, Ireland was dismissed for 254 in their second innings, giving Bangladesh an innings and 47-run win and a 1-0 lead in the series.
Andy McBrine had looked set to anchor Ireland’s innings with a fighting fifty off 105 balls, building a 66-run partnership with captain Andy Balbirnie. However, he was dismissed pulling a shot to short mid-wicket off Hasan Murad, and the tail offered little resistance thereafter. Earlier, McBrine had survived a couple of close calls, including being dropped and twice successfully reviewing LBW decisions.
Murad and Taijul dominated throughout the day, taking seven wickets between them. Taijul struck first, dismissing Matthew Humphreys with a slog sweep caught by Sadman Islam at square leg, while Murad broke the crucial ninth-wicket stand by removing Jordan Neill, his fourth wicket of the innings. Balbirnie was trapped LBW attempting a slog sweep, ending the 119-ball, 66-run partnership, and the final Irish wicket fell to Taijul, bowled Barry McCarthy.
Earlier, Bangladesh had declared their first innings at 587/8, with centuries from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (171) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (100), supported by fifties from Sadman Islam, Mominul Haque, and Liton Das. The innings set a Sylhet record for the highest team total and marked the first time in Bangladesh Test history that the first four batsmen each scored 80 or more. It was also the fifth instance of five Bangladesh batsmen passing fifty in a single innings.
Ireland offered some resistance late in their second innings, with Paul Stirling and Harry Tector adding 57 runs before Stirling was run out. Tector fell LBW to Taijul, Curtis Campher was caught by Sadman off debutant Mehedi Miraz, and Lorcan Tucker was trapped LBW as the innings folded. Despite a brief counter-attack from Jordan Neill and Barry McCarthy, Bangladesh’s spinners frustrated the visitors throughout.
