Bangladesh’s men’s volleyball team fought back from a set down to beat Kazakhstan 3-2 in a gripping contest at the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship, securing their second victory of the tournament.
Bangladesh dropped the opening set 20-25 before rallying to take the next two 25-21 and 25-23. Kazakhstan responded by levelling the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set, but Bangladesh held their nerve to close it out 15-12 in the decider, in Islamabad on Friday.
The result follows an opening 3-2 win over Uzbekistan, though Bangladesh had since lost to hosts Pakistan. They will next face Nepal on Sunday as the round robin stage continues.
Six nations are competing in the championship: Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The tournament is organised by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation under the supervision of the Central Asian Volleyball Association and runs in Islamabad from 22 to 29 July.
The Bangladesh Volleyball Federation said it hopes the team’s consistent form will continue and further boost the country’s standing on the international stage.
