Bangladesh’s football squad has arrived in Singapore ahead of their final Asian Cup qualifying match against the host nation. The team flew from Hanoi, Vietnam, where they played a preparatory match yesterday.
Earlier in the qualifiers, Bangladesh hosted Singapore in Dhaka, narrowly losing 2-1. The upcoming match on 31 March will conclude Bangladesh’s Asian Cup qualifying campaign. Singapore, meanwhile, have already secured their place in the main tournament.
Although the fixture is largely a formality, a win would boost Bangladesh’s ranking points. Victory over a team already through to the Asian Cup would see Bangladesh finish the qualifiers with eight points. If India defeat Hong Kong in the other group match on the same day, Bangladesh and Hong Kong would finish level on points.
For preparation, Bangladesh faced Vietnam in a friendly yesterday. They fell behind by three goals in the first half and were unable to score in the second. After the match, the team travelled to Singapore to complete three days of training ahead of the final qualifier.
