Bangladesh suffered an innings and 38 run defeat against Cricket Australia XI in their three day warm up match in Darwin after a poor second innings batting display.
Bangladesh were bowled out for just 54 in 22 overs after Cricket Australia XI took a 92 run lead in the first innings.
Campbell Thompson caused most of the damage with 8 for 25 from 11 overs. Corey Rocchiccioli took the other two wickets.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the only Bangladesh batter to reach double figures. He scored 22 from 41 balls. Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque made 6 each, while Najmul Hossain Shanto was out for a duck.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 263 in their first innings, led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s unbeaten 109 from 141 balls. He struck 11 fours and four sixes. Shanto added 37 and Shadman scored 31.
Rocchiccioli took 6 for 83 to lead the Cricket Australia XI bowling attack.
The hosts replied with 355. Teague Wyllie starred with 130 from 177 balls, while Jake Doran made 76. Kurtis Patterson scored 53 and Jack Clayton added 48.
Hasan Mahmud was Bangladesh’s best bowler with 4 for 42. Taskin Ahmed and Miraz took two wickets each.
Bangladesh needed 92 runs just to make Cricket Australia XI bat again. Instead, Thompson ran through the batting order and brought the match to a quick end.
Miraz’s century was Bangladesh’s main positive, but their second innings collapse turned the match into a comfortable win for Cricket Australia XI.
They say the morning shows the day. With a Test series against a full strength Australia coming up, Bangladesh’s morning has not been a pleasant one.
