The ball-boy tradition is set to be revived during the three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chattogram, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee president Tamim Iqbal.
Tamim, the former national team captain who himself once served as a ball boy, said he wants to bring back the practice in Bangladesh cricket.
“I don’t know when it stopped. I think it should be there. From the T20 series, there will be ball boys,” he told reporters during a conversation in the second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Recalling his own experience, Tamim said, “I used to be a ball boy back in the day. I remember being a ball boy during the MCC tour of Bangladesh and when India toured Bangladesh in 2004. It’s a good thing,” he added.
Tamim also said that a cricketer’s card would be introduced soon after he distributed the captain’s card to the former and current captains of the Bangladesh national team for men and women.
