Police have submitted a chargesheet within just 13 days in a case involving the rape of a four-year-old child in the city’s Bakalia area, after DNA tests provided scientific proof of the assault. The chargesheet, based on DNA findings, medical reports, and the confession of the accused, was filed on Thursday.
The allegation sheet was submitted to the Prosecution Wing of the Chattogram Metropolitan Court, naming Md Monir Hossain as the sole accused in the case.
According to investigation sources, the DNA report is the most critical component of the chargesheet, as it recorded a “positive sign” confirming the rape. In addition to the DNA findings, the police have included the victim’s medical report, testimonies from eyewitnesses, and the confessional statement made by the accused in court as the primary basis for the prosecution.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Solaiman of Bakalia Police Station said, “We received the DNA report which showed a positive sign of rape. Based on this scientific evidence, we have submitted the chargesheet.”
Police noted that gathering and verifying reports in such sensitive cases usually takes a significant amount of time. But this investigation was given the highest priority from the outset. The OC credited the swift completion of the probe to the supervision of senior officials and the cooperation of various institutions.
“CMP Commissioner Hassan Md Showkat Ali, the DC (South), ADC (South), and AC (Chawkbazar), along with other senior officers, provided extensive support,” OC Solaiman said.
He added that the primary challenge was the rapid collection of various reports, which was made possible by the cooperation of medical authorities and related agencies. “We aimed to file the chargesheet quickly to meet public expectations,” he noted.
The four-year-old child was reportedly raped in the Bakalia area on 21 May. The victim’s father filed a case the following day, leading to the immediate arrest of Monir Hossain. The accused subsequently gave a confessional statement in court.
The arrest triggered significant local tension. Thousands of residents surrounded the police vehicle in protest and attempted to snatch the accused from custody. later Police brought the situation under control using extensive force.
A separate case has been filed against over 500 individuals for obstructing police duties and launching an attack.
With the submission of the chargesheet, the case has now entered the judicial process. Police officials expressed confidence that the strong scientific evidence would ensure exemplary punishment for the accused in court.
