The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has reduced prices of gold ornaments following a fall in pure gold (Tejabi) rates.

The decision was finalised at a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring at 9am Saturday and announced in a notification issued the same morning.

The revised prices took effect from 10am Saturday.

On Friday, BAJUS had set 22‑carat gold at Tk2.28 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams), 21‑carat at Tk2.18 lakh, 18‑carat at Tk1.87 lakh, and traditional gold at Tk1.53 lakh.

Under the new list, 22‑carat cadmium (hallmarked) gold is Tk226,340 per bhori, 21‑carat Tk216,192, 18‑carat Tk185,691, and traditional gold Tk151,690.

However, silver prices remain unchanged from Friday. The 22‑carat silver Tk5,249 per bhori, 21‑carat Tk5,016, 18‑carat Tk4,257, and traditional silver Tk3,208.

BAJUS said VAT is already included in gold ornament prices and cannot be collected separately. Making charges will apply depending on design. A decision on VAT for silver ornaments will be announced soon.

Existing BAJUS rules on exchange or purchase of ornaments remain in force, excluding VAT, making charges, and stone costs.
