The wife and nine-month-old child of imprisoned Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Chhatra League president Jewel Hasan Saddam were laid to rest on late hours at Saturday.
Kaniz Subarna Swarnali, aged 22, and her infant son were buried at her father’s residence in Sabekdanga village, Bagerhat Sadar, around 12am.
Swarnali’s father, Sheikh Ruhul Amin, confirmed the burial.
Earlier on Saturday at 7:30pm, Saddam was allowed to see his wife and child one last time at the gate of Jashore Central Jail.
Saddam was arrested in Gopalganj on 5 April, following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August. He remains in custody at Jashore Central Jail. Prison authorities allowed six family members to enter the jail premises along with the ambulance carrying the bodies, permitting Saddam only five minutes to view his wife and child.
On Friday afternoon, police recovered the hanging body of Kaniz Subarna Swarnali from a house in Sabekdanga village, Karapara Union, Bagerhat Sadar. Her infant son, Nazim, was found lifeless beside her.
Police and family members said that, in a state of despair, Swarnali first killed her child and then took her own life. The family and local authorities completed the burial on Saturday evening.
