Internationally acclaimed actress Babita is planning to build a mosque on her family’s ancestral land in Bijoynagar, Jashore, fulfilling a long-cherished dream she has nurtured for the past four to five years.
The veteran actress recently visited Jashore with her elder sister, veteran actress Suchanda, and younger sister Champa. During the visit, they finalised the plot where the mosque will be constructed.
Babita said selecting the land had given her a sense of peace and gratitude. She hopes to build a beautiful mosque and plans to begin work after completing the design.
The visit also brought back memories of her childhood. Bijoynagar is her paternal ancestral home, while her maternal family home is in Baliachar, also in Jashore. Returning to both places reminded her of the people and moments that shaped her early years.
The actress also recalled her childhood friend Kulsum, with whom she spent much of her time fishing, playing games and exploring the village. She said learning of her friend’s death left her deeply saddened.
Despite the emotional moments, Babita said the visit filled her with warmth as relatives and local residents welcomed the three sisters with affection.
The trip also revived memories of another sister, Jelly, who was born after Suchanda but died at the age of four. Jelly is buried in the family’s ancestral graveyard alongside their grandparents. Visiting the grave brought back memories of what might have been had she survived to grow up with her sisters.
Meanwhile, Babita is set to celebrate her birthday on 30 July in Canada, where her only son, Anik, lives. She is expected to travel there soon and spend the occasion with him.
Despite the upcoming celebrations, Babita remains focused on completing the mosque project, which she considers the most meaningful goal she hopes to accomplish in her lifetime.
