Nahid Rana’s pace has drawn attention ahead of the Bangladesh-Pakistan Test series, with teammates claiming Babar Azam does not relish facing him. The first Test starts in Dhaka on 8 May, days after Rana helped Peshawar Zalmi win the PSL title in Lahore.
Rana returned for the final after missing league matches due to international duty. He bowled four overs, conceded 22 runs, and took two wickets, including a maiden. He finished the tournament with nine wickets in five matches.
His pace stood out more than his numbers. He regularly exceeded 150 kph. Batters struggled to line him up, especially on fuller lengths. He attacked the stumps and forced rushed shots.
Aaron Hardie, Rana’s teammate at Peshawar, said, “He got off the plane three days ago and still bowled with serious pace. When he hit 151 in Karachi, it was tough for batters.”
Hardie also pointed to the upcoming contest with Babar. He said, “I know he has a Test match next week. I also know Babar is not looking forward to facing him. It will be a friendly contest.”
Nahid Rana has only played franchise cricket in Pakistan so far. He has not featured in other global leagues. Hardie expects that to change. He said, “I can see him travelling around the world and playing in different competitions. Teams will want a player like him.”
Babar led Peshawar to the PSL title as captain. The focus now shifts to red-ball cricket. Bangladesh will look to use Rana’s pace early in Dhaka, where new-ball movement often shapes the first session.
