The Asia Foundation has partnered with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to enhance the skills of female workers in Bangladesh’s garment industry, aiming to create a more sustainable work environment.
A delegation from the Asia Foundation met with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at his office on Saturday to discuss potential collaborations to support the growth of the RMG sector.
The meeting, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, focused on skill development, leadership opportunities, and improving the overall welfare of female workers. The delegation included Country Representative Kazi Faisal Bin Seraj, Program Director Aini Islam, and Communications & Outreach Lead Kashfia Kais.
President Mahmud Hasan Khan praised the Asia Foundation’s efforts to advance the garment sector and reaffirmed BGMEA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its female workforce. He stressed the importance of working with international organizations like the Asia Foundation to achieve these goals.
The Asia Foundation proposed several initiatives aimed at empowering female workers, including skill development training programs, health and safety improvements, mid-level management training, community-based daycare facilities, and introducing circular practices in the garment industry.
Both organizations expressed hope that their partnership would lead to new opportunities and contribute to a more humane and sustainable garment industry in Bangladesh.
