Arsenal received a squad boost before their Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid as Mikel Arteta confirmed Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz are available.
Arsenal sit in a strong position in the Premier League title race after Manchester City dropped points at Everton. They need three wins from their final matches to secure the title for the first time in 22 years.
Arteta confirmed both players’ return ahead of the European tie. “Yes, they are both available and in the squad. It is great because we need options. We need players who can start or finish games differently. It is really good news to have them back.”
Odegaard played 57 minutes in the 1-1 first-leg draw in Madrid. Havertz missed that match after picking up an injury early against Newcastle on 25 April. He also dealt with a knee issue earlier in the season and later muscle problems.
Arsenal also regained Bukayo Saka, who missed the first leg at the Metropolitano. He returned in the 3-0 league win against Fulham on Saturday, scoring and assisting.
Arteta stressed the need for decisive performances at this stage. “It is great. At this stage of the competition, we wanted this. Players have to be ready not only to play but to perform at their best and make the difference.”
Arsenal aim for a second Champions League final after their 2006 appearance. Atletico Madrid chase a fourth European Cup final and their first since 2016. The first leg remains level, with both sides carrying clear paths into the decider.
