Professor Ali Riaz, vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has been appointed special assistant to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, the Cabinet Division announced in a gazette notification on Thursday.
Signed by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, the notification states that Ali Riaz will hold the position with the status, salary, allowances, and other benefits equivalent to that of an adviser.
Professor Riaz, a distinguished professor of Politics and Government at Illinois State University, USA, previously served as head of the Constitutional Reform Commission established by the interim government after the July mass uprising.
He was appointed vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission earlier this year in February, which is chaired by the chief adviser.
