Akbar Ali and Pritom Kumar led North Zone’s strong reply on day two of the Bangladesh Cricket League. The captain and his partner added 233 runs for a key stand. Both reached three figures. North Zone moved past South Zone’s 314 and ended the day with a 65-run lead.
North Zone resumed on 16. They lost an early wicket after adding 12 runs. Abdullah Al Mamun fell for 15 to pacer Abu Jayed Rahi. Soon after, Sabbir Hossain got out with the team score at 42. The third wicket went down at 55. Iqbal Hossain was out lbw for 9.
Then came the fightback. Akbar and Pritom took control of the game. They played positive cricket and scored at a good pace. Akbar made 121 from 158 balls. He hit two sixes and 16 fours. His innings ended when Ashraful Hasan took a catch at backward point off Samiun Basir Ratul.
Pritom stayed firm at the other end. He reached 151 not out from 184 balls. He hit two sixes and 16 fours. Later, Sunzamul Islam gave him support with 22 from 39 balls. Bad light stopped play late in the day. North Zone closed on 379 for 6 and will bat again on day three.
In the other match, Central Zone faced East Zone. East Zone are still behind after two days. They trail Central Zone’s 307 by 57 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim was not out on 59. Amit Hasan was unbeaten on 88. Their team reached 243 for 3 at stumps.
