Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who was shot in the head three days ago, has been airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical treatment. He is currently receiving care at Singapore General Hospital.
According to airport sources, the air ambulance took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Singapore at 1:55pm on Monday.
Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital, where he remained in critical condition. Doctors have reported no improvement in his condition so far.
Meanwhile, the police have yet to capture the suspected shooter, Faisal Karim, and the motorbike rider, Alamgir. Investigators are following leads suggesting that the two suspects may have crossed the border into India, and efforts are underway to verify this information.
In relation to the shooting in the capital’s Puran Paltan on Friday, Hadi’s family filed a case on Sunday night. Several individuals have been arrested, and four of them have been placed on remand.
Among those arrested, Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle, is currently being questioned in a three-day remand at the DB custody. Additionally, the wife, brother-in-law, and girlfriend of Faisal Karim are also being interrogated on a five-day remand.
Earlier, the Detective Branch sought information from two individuals detained in Savar regarding the suspected attackers of Hadi. However, after questioning and finding no involvement, they were released on personal bonds.
BGB conducted a joint raid in the border areas to catch Philip Snal, who is suspected of assisting the attackers in fleeing to India through the Mymensingh border.
During the raid, BGB arrested Philip’s wife Delta Chiran, his father-in-law Yarsan Rongdi, and alleged traffickers Luis Lemingja, and were handed over to the police. A DB team is scheduled to visit on Tuesday to interrogate them further.
Additionally, three others detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) are being questioned by the police. On Monday, BGB also arrested two individuals, Benjamin Chiran and Shishal, at the Nolitabari border in Sherpur for assisting in illegal border crossings.
The shooting of Osman Hadi, a youth leader involved in the July Uprising and an aspiring independent candidate for the upcoming national elections, has caused an uproar in the political arena.
On Sunday, following instructions from Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, the decision was made to send Hadi to Singapore for treatment. He was accompanied on the flight by his brother, Omar Bin Hadi, and his political ally, Aminul Hasan Faisal.
A case of attempted murder was filed at Paltan Model Police Station on Sunday night in connection with the attack on Hadi. The case has since been transferred to the DB Motijheel Division for further investigation.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed that the investigation is underway. Paltan Police Station’s Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia said that one individual has been named as a suspect in the case.
Statements from Faisal’s wife and girlfriend
Meanwhile, in relation to the case, suspect Faisal Karim’s wife, Saheda Parveen Samiya, informed the court that she last saw her husband 2-3 days before the incident. She shared this during the remand hearing on Monday evening, where the court granted her a 5-day remand.
Samiya said, “A few days before the incident, Faisal left home with extra clothes. I don’t know anything beyond that.” She further added, “He (Faisal) would visit me late at night and leave in the morning. We didn’t have much communication beyond that. He wasn’t with me before the incident. On the day of the incident, he was with his girlfriend, Maria Akter Lima.”
During the remand hearing, Lima told the court that Faisal had offered her money due to some financial difficulties.
On Monday afternoon, in addition to Faisal’s wife, the court also granted 5-day remands for his brother-in-law, Wahid Ahmed Sipu, and Lima. Before being brought to court from the DB office, a 7-day remand was requested for each of them. They were arrested on Sunday from various areas of Dhaka and later charged in connection with the attempted murder of Osman Hadi.
