The Asian Football Confederation has welcomed FIFA’s decision to drop its proposal to allow private investment in the World Cup.
The AFC issued a statement on Saturday after FIFA withdrew the plan.
AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa “welcomed the withdrawal of the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise,” the Kuala Lumpur based body said in a statement.
The AFC also called for greater transparency in decisions that could affect world football.
Any initiative that may impact global football should be “presented and discussed with the Confederations, the FIFA Council, Member Associations (MAs) and other stakeholders in a timely, transparent and meaningful manner,” the AFC said.
The Asian Football Confederation represents 47 member nations, including Bangladesh, Australia, China, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
