Fakir Mahbub Anam, the minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, as well as Science and Technology, is participating in World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai, China. The four-day global summit, which commenced today, is scheduled to continue until 20 July.
The conference was officially inaugurated today by the president of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping. The opening ceremony also featured addresses by the president of Kazakhstan, the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, and the secretary-general of the United Nations.
Their speeches highlighted the increasing necessity of international cooperation regarding responsible development and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The event has brought together heads of state, policymakers, technology leaders, researchers, and representatives from the world’s leading tech firms. Discussions are focused on the future of AI, emerging technologies, AI governance, innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
During the conference, Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam is set to participate in several high-level sessions and bilateral meetings with global technology leaders and policymakers. He will highlight Bangladesh’s progress in digital transformation, AI-driven innovation, smart governance, and human resource development.
Moreover, he will explore opportunities to strengthen international cooperation in AI research, investment, advanced technology, and capacity building.
Bangladesh’s participation in WAIC 2026 reflects government’s firm commitment to leveraging AI and emerging technologies to build a knowledge-based, innovation-driven, and digitally empowered nation.
