The Adani Group has announced one of the world’s largest integrated energy-compute commitments, pledging a direct investment of $100 billion to develop renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centres in India by 2035.

This initiative aims to establish a long-term sovereign energy and compute platform, positioning India as a global leader in the emerging Intelligence Revolution, read a press release.

The direct investment is expected to catalyse an additional $150 billion over the next decade across server manufacturing, advanced electrical infrastructure, sovereign cloud platforms, and supporting industries.

Together, these investments are projected to create a $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India.

Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, stated that the world is entering an Intelligence Revolution more profound than any previous Industrial Revolution.

“Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade,” he said, adding that India is uniquely positioned to lead.

He emphasised that the group is expanding into a five-layer AI stack focused on technological sovereignty, ensuring India is a creator and exporter of intelligence rather than just a consumer.

Expanding the infrastructure footprint

The roadmap is built on AdaniConneX’s existing 2 GW national data centre platform, with a target of reaching 5 GW.

This vision is supported by landmark partnerships, including a collaboration with Google to establish the nation’s largest gigawatt-scale AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, with additional campuses in Noida.

Furthermore, a partnership with Microsoft spans Hyderabad and Pune, while the group remains in discussions with other major global players for further large-scale campuses.

The Adani Group will also deepen its partnership with Flipkart to develop a second high-performance AI data centre purpose-built for digital commerce and large-scale AI workloads.

Integrated energy and compute model

The 5 GW deployment will create the world’s largest integrated data centre platform, linking renewable power generation, transmission infrastructure, and hyperscale AI compute within a single architecture.

Unlike conventional expansions, the programme is designed as a unified ecosystem where grid resilience and high-density processing capacity are developed in parallel.

Facilities will be optimised for next-generation workloads using advanced liquid cooling systems and high-efficiency power architecture. Dedicated compute capacity will support Indian Large Language Models (LLMs) and national data initiatives to ensure long-term data sovereignty.

Leveraging renewable energy and supply chains

To power these energy-intensive workloads, the group will utilise Adani Green Energy’s 30 GW Khavda project, of which over 10 GW is already operational.

Additionally, the group has committed $55 billion to expand its renewable energy portfolio, including one of the world’s largest battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Strategic connectivity through cable landing stations at Adani’s ports will ensure low-latency global integration with the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

To de-risk from global supply-chain volatility and support Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) goals, the group will co-invest in the domestic manufacturing of critical components, such as high-capacity transformers, advanced power electronics, and grid systems.

National priorities and talent development

Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti programme, the group is embedding agentic AI across its logistics, ports, and industrial corridors to modernise national infrastructure.

To democratise high-performance compute, a significant portion of GPU capacity will be reserved for Indian AI startups, research institutions, and deep-tech entrepreneurs. The group also plans to establish specialised AI Infrastructure Engineering curricula, applied research labs, and a national fellowship programme to bridge the skills gap.
