The court has granted a three-day remand for actor Siddiqur Rahman in the case of the murder of furniture store employee Parvez Bepari, related to the anti-discrimination movement, filed with Gulshan Police Station.
The order was issued on Wednesday, by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Md Ziadur Rahman’s court in Dhaka, after hearing both the state and the defense. On this day, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Samiul Islam of Gulshan Police Station, applied for a 10-day remand of the accused.
Meanwhile, the defense applied for the cancellation of the remand and sought bail. ACMM Court’s Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman argued in favour of granting the remand. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered the remand.
The remand application stated that the accused was present in front of Shahjadpur’s Suvastu Nazar Valley, provided financial support, and instigated the incident to deter the anti-discrimination students and public. He is the 223rd accused in the First Information Report (FIR), and it is alleged that the incident occurred under his leadership.
There are five reasons why his remand is necessary in this case according to the application: 1. Conducting an axtensive interrogation for the sake of a fair investigation; 2. Conducting operations to arrest the absconding accused named in the FIR; 3. Collecting information and arresting the financiers and planners of the incident; 4. Collecting information and arresting those who led the incident; 5. Interrogation to recover the weapons used in the incident.
Previously, on April 29, while passing through Bailey Road, some youths detained Siddique. After assaulting him, they handed him over to the Ramna Model Thana police. Later, the Ramna Model Thana police transferred him to Gulshan Thana.
According to the case allegations, during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19, furniture store employee Parvez Bepari participated in the movement with his friends in front of Suvastu Nazar Valley under Gulshan Thana. After Jummah prayers, he was injured by bullets fired by the accused and was taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Regarding this incident, Parvez’s father Md Sabuj filed a case at Gulshan Thana on July 2.
