The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is preparing to file a chargesheet against British MP Tulip Siddiq for allegedly receiving a flat in her own name through unethical means, rather than for her family.
The commission approved the move in a case involving Eastern Housing.
Tulip Siddiq is accused of receiving the flat in exchange for granting Eastern Housing undue benefits to construct a plot in Gulshan. On 15 April this year, the ACC filed a case against Tulip Siddiq, along with two former Rajuk legal officers, Shah Khosruzzaman and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain.
By July, the investigation was nearly complete when Shah Khosruzzaman filed a writ in the High Court, resulting in a three-month suspension of the probe. Later, when the case returned to the chamber court, the ACC did not receive any order to proceed.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain said the commission has now decided to submit the chargesheet against Tulip Siddiq, excluding Shah Khosruzzaman, after a delay of five months due to legal hurdles.
Meanwhile, the ACC has filed five separate cases against S Alam Group for allegedly embezzling over Tk9,428 crore from Janata Bank through five of its companies.
On Thursday, anti-corruption student activists staged a human chain outside the ACC office in Segunbagicha, demanding disclosure of assets of former advisers Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiya and Mahfuj Alam.
The students also urged the authorities to reveal instances of corruption in the relevant ministries over the past 17 months under the two advisers.
