A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Latifa Haque Leo, also known as Lucy, mother-in-law of late film actor Salman Shah, in connection with the actor’s alleged murder in 1996.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman on Thursday issued a travel ban on Latifa Haque, following a petition filed by the case’s investigating officer, Ramna Model Police Station Inspector Atiqul Islam.
Latifa Haque Leo, listed as the third accused in the case, is now barred from leaving the country. Earlier, on 27 October, travel restrictions were also imposed on Salman Shah’s former wife Samira Haque and actor Ashraful Haque Don, bringing the total number of accused barred from travel to three.
To enforce the court’s directive, Ramna Police have formally notified immigration authorities at all airports and land ports. Additional vigilance has been ordered at the Hili Immigration Checkpost in Dinajpur to prevent any of the accused from leaving the country.
The case was converted into a murder investigation on 20 October, following the court’s order to reopen Salman Shah’s unnatural death case. Within 24 hours of the court’s directive, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Almgeer Kumkum, filed a formal murder complaint with the Ramna Police Station, prompting renewed investigative action.
Authorities are currently verifying new evidence and testimonies collected during the reinvestigation.
A total of 11 individuals are now listed as accused. Apart from Samira Haque, Latifa Haque Leo, and Ashraful Haque Don, the accused include producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby of Mefia Beauty Centre, Abdus Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed Farhad.
