Several Bangladesh cricketers have made significant progress in the latest ICC rankings, reflecting their strong performances during the ongoing home series against the West Indies. The updates, released by the ICC on Wednesday, brought mixed fortunes for the Tigers, with some players soaring up the charts and others slipping back.
Left-hander Soumya Sarkar enjoyed one of the biggest jumps in the ODI batting rankings, climbing 24 places to 62nd after scoring 140 runs in three matches of the West Indies series. His contributions included a fluent 91-run innings in the final match and 45 runs in the Super Over decider that Bangladesh won to seal the series 2–1.
Towhid Hridoy remains Bangladesh’s highest-ranked ODI batter at 35th, despite a modest series where he scored 91 runs, including a half-century in the opening match. Najmul Hossain Shanto rose one place to 42nd after also scoring 91 runs across three games, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed put at 63rd with 66 runs.
In contrast, Liton Das, who missed the series through injury, fell five places to 96th. No other Bangladeshi batter features among the top 100. Saif Hassan, despite scoring 89 runs in three matches, failed to break into the top bracket.
Bangladesh’s bowlers also enjoyed success in the latest rankings. ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved up one place to 17th after taking three wickets in the series.
The standout performer, however, was Nasum Ahmed, who claimed five wickets in two matches at an economy rate of 3.06. His effort earned him a dramatic 24-place rise to 47th position. Rishad Hossain, Bangladesh’s top wicket-taker with 12 wickets in three games, advanced four spots to 62nd, while Tanvir Islam climbed 27 places to a joint 68th position after bagging five wickets.
Meanwhile, Tanzim Hasan Sakib slipped four places to 77th, Shoriful Islam fell two places to 63rd, Mustafizur Rahman dropped two to 60th, and Taskin Ahmed went down two to 40th.
In the ODI all-rounders’ list, Rishad Hossain, who was named Player of the Series against the West Indies, moved up two spots to 35th. Among opposition players, Akeal Hosein climbed 22 places to 72nd after his consistent performances with both bat and ball.
There was good news in the T20I rankings too. Both Nasum Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib made impressive gains among all-rounders, rising 39 and 18 places respectively, to share the 65th position jointly.
In the T20I batting category, West Indies’ Brandon King jumped five places to 28th, while Rovman Powell rose nine spots to 30th. For Bangladesh, Towhid Hridoy advanced two places to 43rd, Saif Hassan slipped two to 20th, and Shamim Hossain Patwary dropped seven to 97th.
