James Anderson, England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, has been awarded a knighthood in recognition of his outstanding contribution to cricket.
The 43-year-old fast bowler, who claimed 704 wickets in 188 Tests over a remarkable 22-year international career, was knighted by the Princess Royal during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
Anderson was included in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s resignation honours list in April for his services to the sport. Only Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and Australia’s Shane Warne have taken more wickets in Test history.
Having retired from international cricket in July 2024, Anderson continues to play for his lifelong county, Lancashire, and is reportedly in discussions over a one-year contract extension for the 2026 season, which would see him play beyond his 44th birthday.
